As you may already know, i’ve got a soft spot for Nike Air Max Current Huarache’s. In fact, it’s the only Huarache that i’ll even entertain the thought of copping. Having recently added Hufquakes to the collection i’ve been on the look out for something similar. That’s when the DQM Current Huarache popped up on my radar. A little digging into this Quickstrike release revealed the OG origins of the colour way which i thought i’d share with you.
The Dave’s Quality Meat store and brand launched in New York back in 2003. A rich background in skating, graffiti, cycling and music paired with the owner’s knowledge and creative flair has led to some of the best collabs around.
In 2004 they applied the store’s butchering theme to the Air Max 90 and in doing so created what is thought to be the best Air Max colour way of all time. The Quickstrike edition is hard enough to find but the Hyperstrike is like hen’s teeth. Only 24 pairs were made featuring a special tongue label, ‘burnt’ leather uppers and bone artwork on the insoles. A commemorative T-shirt, plaster and shoebox was also included in this pack.
5 years later the same meat inspired colour way was used on the Quickstrike Air Max Current Huarache’s. These carry the same ‘bacon’ colour blocking as the original 90’s with a ‘Nike East’ stamp on the tongue.
